Top 10 most unhealthy, cancer-causing foods – never eat these again!
June 4, 2013 | Filed under: Health,News | Posted by: True Activist

NaturalNews.
The statement “everything causes cancer” has become a popular hyperbole, and one that some people use as rhetorical fodder to excuse their own dietary and lifestyle failures, particularly as they pertain to cancer risk. But the truth of the matter is that many common food items have, indeed, been scientifically shown to increase cancer risk, and some of them substantially. Here are 10 of the most unhealthy, cancer-causing foods that you should never eat again:
1) Genetically-modified organisms (GMOs). It goes without saying that GMOs have no legitimate place in any cancer-free diet, especially now that both GMOs and the chemicals used to grow them have been shown to cause rapid tumor growth. But GMOs are everywhere, including in most food derivatives made from conventional corn, soybeans, and canola. However, you can avoid them by sticking with certified organic, certified non-GMO verified, and locally-grown foods that are produced naturally without biotechnology (http://www.naturalnews.com).
2) Processed meats. Most processed meat products, including lunch meats, bacon, sausage, and hot dogs, contain chemical preservatives that make them appear fresh and appealing, but that can also cause cancer. Both sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate have been linked to significantly increasing the risk of colon and other forms of cancer, so be sure to choose only uncured meat products made without nitrates, and preferably from grass-fed sources (http://www.organicconsumers.org/foodsafety/processedmeat050305.cfm).
3) Microwave popcorn. They might be convenient, but those bags of microwave popcorn are lined with chemicals that are linked to causing not only infertility but also liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in microwave popcorn bag linings as “likely” carcinogenic, and several independent studies have linked the chemical to causing tumors. Similarly, the diacetyl chemical used in the popcorn itself is linked to causing both lung damage and cancer (http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA400701/Microwave-Popcorn-Threat.html).
4) Soda pop. Like processed meats, soda pop has been shown to cause cancer as well. Loaded with sugar, food chemicals, and colorings, soda pop acidifies the body and literally feeds cancer cells. Common soda pop chemicals like caramel color and its derivative 4-methylimidazole (4-MI) have also specifically been linked to causing cancer (http://www.naturalnews.com/031383_caramel_coloring_cola.html)
5) ‘Diet’ foods, beverages. Even worse than conventional sugar-sweetened soda pop, though, is “diet” soda pop and various other diet beverages and foods. A recent scientific review issued by theEuropean Food Safety Authority (EFSA) of more than 20 separate research studies found that aspartame, one of the most common artificial sweeteners, causes a range of illnesses including birth defects and cancer. Sucralose (Splenda), saccharin and various other artificial sweeteners have also been linked to causing cancer (http://www.dailymail.co.uk).
6) Refined ‘white’ flours. Refined flour is a common ingredient in processed foods, but its excess carbohydrate content is a serious cause for concern. A study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Mile Markers, and Prevention found that regular consumption of refined carbohydrates was linked to a 220 percent increase in breast cancer among women. High-glycemic foods in general have also been shown to rapidly raise blood sugar levels in the body, which directly feeds cancer cell growth and spread (http://www.naturalnews.com/001812_cancer_prevention.html).
7) Refined sugars. The same goes for refined sugars, which tend to rapidly spike insulin levels and feed the growth of cancer cells. Fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are particularly offensive, as cancer cells have been shown to quickly and easily metabolize them in order to proliferate. And since cookies, cakes, pies, sodas, juices, sauces, cereals, and many other popular, mostly processed, food items are loaded with HFCS and other refined sugars, this helps explain why cancer rates are on the rise these days (http://www.naturalnews.com/038071_cancer_sugar_sweets.html).
8) Conventional apples, grapes, and other ‘dirty’ fruits. Many people think they are eating healthy when they buy apples, grapes, or strawberries from the store. But unless these fruits are organic or verified to be pesticide-free, they could be a major cancer risk. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that up to 98 percent of all conventional produce, and particularly the type found on its “dirty” fruits list, is contaminated with cancer-causing pesticides (http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/list/).
9) Farmed salmon. Farmed salmon is another high-risk cancer food, according to Dr. David Carpenter, Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University of Albany. According to his assessment, farmed salmon not only lacks vitamin D, but it is often contaminated with carcinogenic chemicals, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), flame retardants, pesticides, and antibiotics (http://www.albany.edu/ihe/salmonstudy/pressrelease.html).
10) Hydrogenated oils. They are commonly used to preserve processed foods and keep them shelf-stable. But hydrogenated oils alter the structure and flexibility of cell membranes throughout the body, which can lead to a host of debilitating diseases such as cancer. Some manufacturers are phasing out the use of hydrogenated oils and replacing them with palm oil and other safer alternatives, but trans fats are still widely used in processed foods

******Mothers******

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked,

"God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said, "When I made the woman she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart the
place where love resides."

*******************Rates*****

Every day about the same time, I try for a mile and a quarter. Start slow and work up to a fair clip. I'm down to 164 lbs.  that's about 18 lbs less than I was the first week in may. I think that God might give me a bit of a break if I mind my p's and q's. Tonight my heart rate starts at about 62. Normally with the meds  I'm on, my heart perks along at 46 to 50 when I'm sitting down. So when I'm on the treadmill I try to do it before I take my pills. Otherwise it's too hard getting my BPM up there. About half my time tonight is at 71 to 76.  Not bad for me. The doc wants 80.
I think Wendy’s stock will fall this year, I’m sure their sales are down. The drive thru would see me coming and ask if I wanted the usual ?  I still have the ultimate sandwich every so often. Just skip the fries and diet coke. Between my diet and the lipitor horse pills my cholesterol is down.
Now if I could just sleep at nights.

MRI Standby

    Its 10:30 , my appointment with Dr Dixon is at 11:50.  Better get going, you never know , sometimes when you're early you can get in a bit sooner.  I'm kind of antsy about this one. I had my MRI last Sunday and I'm thinking he may not have the results yet. This is the a follow up on my pancreatic surgery from november of 2011, and to me it's a big deal.
    We pass the noon hour and on the way to one. Ten minutes before one I get the call. First thing he says, "you look well , have you lost some weight ?"  This guy is one of Calgary's finest and sought after surgeons for the the type of operation he performed on me. I know he's busy with a huge workload and I'm just pleased that he remembers me.
    I tell him about my recent heart attack and my exercise and diet. Then sure enough he doesn't have the mri results. So he looks up my pictures on the computer. I'm no expert he says but they look good to him. He tells me to relax and don't worry. Give him a call later this week and he'll confirm what he just gave an educated guess to. Good news to get and worth waiting for.

***************MRIs and treadmills**

I'm at the Lougheed, waiting for my turn in the line up. Its an mri appointment. not anything that hurts or anything. But these routines are really starting to wear me down. I get the call. Cant remember her name but we\re in a little room and I tell her about my Heart attack and the resulting stents. . She tells me to hold on while she checks with the big guy. She's back in a few minutes and says no way , they won't do it for at least three months she says. I call the surgeons office. His nurse says she will pass it on.

Same day Im at the cardiac wellness center in the afternoon at the talisman center. I get all hooked up with a dozen stickies and a BP band. The young nurse is way beyond nice and sweet. She tells me most heart attack patients last about six minutes before they cry uncle, I sign the papers absolving her and everyone involved of any responsibility if I should croak on the treadmill. Im off at a steady pace. Things are moving nicely and she sets the angle at about the same as the Cochrane Hill. Then if you can believe it she cranks up the speed. I gave it all I had , I tell her I'm sorry for being in poor shape. She smiles and says her aim and the centers aim is to work on that. Just under six minutes. The Doc makes a few calls and says No way , The MRI should have went ahead.  I need a week on the beach.

****************Ladies over FORTY ***********

Andy Rooney's thoughts on women over forty:

As I grow in age, I value women who are over forty most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over forty will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, “What are you thinking?” She doesn’t care what you think.

If a woman over forty doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it’s usually something more interesting.

A woman over forty knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of forty give a hoot what you might think about her or what she’s doing.

Women over forty are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.

A woman over forty has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn’t trust the guy with other women. Women over forty couldn’t care less if you’re attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won’t betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over forty. They always know.

A woman over forty looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over forty is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one! You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over forty for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of forty-plus, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some twenty-two-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

Monday, May 13, 2013

It’s 3:00 in the morning on monday. I'm sitting on the side of the bed wondering what should I do. I've taken a tylenol , its not working. I've had this ache for a few days now and when I took my Bike for a spin yesterday and had to stop to pick up my passenger seat , I really noticed this ache and shortness of breath.

Val says “ we should call an ambulance”.  In 5 minutes the fire department is at the front door.

Three of them asking me questions , doing what they do. A few minutes  pass and the ambulance is at the door. The fire department is now reinforced with three paramedics. They hook up all their monitoring equipment and transmit the data to the Hospital.  The decision is made and I'm off to the Foothills , lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Cardiac patients are given priority as I'm rushed to the head of the line. more monitoring leads are hooked to my chest and more tests. The emergency doctor stops by. Have they given you the news. No I tell him. You are having a heart attack He tells me.

They wheel me through to a room where they prepare to save my life. They go through the wrist and up to my heart to place a stent in an artery that is totally blocked. There's another one that has to be  done, but they only take care of the imminent threat. The pain is instantly relieved and my mind slows down to the speed limit.

Im in the Cardiac ICU. Private room, Hooked up and bloodpressued every 15 minutes. The air pressure powered dressing is deflated when yvette thinks its looking good. Tuesday afternoon

it's back downstairs for my second stent. You're wide awake when they do it, and the first was easy, this one hurts a bit when they insert it. Back upstairs to my luxury suite, I'm tucked in for the night.

The next day i'm out of icu and on the 8th floor cardiac unit. Doc comes around , declares me reasonably sound and says he's going to send me home tomorrow. And he does..

And then its winter

AND THEN IT IS WINTER

You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of
the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married
and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons
ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all.
I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is... the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...
How did I get here so fast ? Where did the years go and where did my youth
go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking
that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off
that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move
slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape
than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember
who were young and vibrant..but, like me, their age is beginning to show and
we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd
be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the
day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I
don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all
the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things
that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know that though
the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know,
that when it's over on this earth...it’s over. A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I
should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.
It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be
here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in
your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by
quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is
your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons
of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your
loved ones to remember..and hope that they appreciate and love you for
all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those
who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY ! HAVE A GREAT
DAY

Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and
silver. Life is too short to let even one day be frenzied or frazzled or frittered
away. Life is too short not to take time to do the things that will hold the
most meaning for you. So let yourself float like a leaf on a stream, relax with your memories and let yourself dream. Throw out your list that's impossibly long, and dance a few steps to a favorite song. Turn off the news and go find someone real who'll listen and talk and affirm what you feel. Life is too short and flies by if you let it, so choose what you want every day-- and go and get it.

LIVE HAPPY IN 2013!

TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE
SO - ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
~You forget names.... But it's OK because other people forgot they even
knew you!!!
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything....
especially golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you
really do care that
you don't care to do them anymore.
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's
called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF"
switch..
~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it
anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never
wear.

~~~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all,
OLD FRIENDS!!  Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!!
It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of
Life You Have Lived.
Puzzle pieces
We're all pieces of the same ever~changing puzzle;
some connected for mere seconds, some connected for life,
some connected through knowledge, some through belief,
some connected through wisdom, some through love, and some connected with no explanation at all. Yet, as spiritual beings having a human experience, we're all here for the sensations this reality or illusion has to offer. The best anyone can hope for is the right to be able to Live, Learn, Love then Leave. After that, reap the benefits of their own chosen existence in the hereafter by virtue of simply believing in what they believe. As for here, it took me a while but this progression helped me with my life: "I like myself. I love myself. I am myself.”
André Rieu - Nearer my God to Thee (Titanic)
Nearer my God to thee
There is harmony in nature when man seeks to draw close to the presence of their Creator, when it is finally enevitable that their mortality and existance is at hand. It is the reality of our circumstance and the age old migratory yearnings that reminds us of where we began. In all of our wanderings, our foolish expectations, we again come to our senses and seek the guiding voice that guides us to a safe refuge with a God who remembers us as we were and we again become nearer to Him.
